I've been a Melanie fan since Lay Down. Once upon a time I had these 2 albums on vinyl but they disappeared along the road. The Good Book has standout tracks such as Babe Rainbow, Sign On The Window and of course, The Good Book. My favourite though is The Saddest Thing (which I have requested be played at my funeral) that not only mourns passing but celebrates life itself. It is not however, one of my favourite albums, recorded while Melanie was still a "young" artist and I have to be in the mood to play this one.Gather Me is the album where I believe her music really begins to grow and mature. There isn't one track on this album I don't love but I guess standout tracks would have to be Little Bit of Me, Ring The Living Bell and Some Say (I got Devil). The lyrics are all there for The Good Book but the finishing touch is the many cover notes and anecdotes from Melanie on Gather Me. These 2 albums are not rehashes of her most popular stuff and show from one to the other, her growth and depth both in her songwriting and vocals. A "must have" for any fan.
